CSK VS GT IPL MATCH
REPORT ON IPL MATCH (30 April 2024)
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS lifted their fifth IPL title as they defeated former champions, Gujarat Titans, in what turned out to be an epic finale at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The final was shifted to the reserve day thanks to the unrelenting rain in the city of Gujarat. However, when things did get underway, it rained sixes throughout the night. GT batted first and on the back of a magnificent 96 (47) from Sai Sudarshan, the Hardik Pandya-led unit smashed 214/4 in 20 overs.
However, before the 2nd innings could get underway, the heavens opened up again to bring DLS into play. The revised target for CSK was 171 in 15 overs, which the MS Dhoni-led unit got off the final delivery of their innings, thanks to an amazing late assault from Ravindra Jadeja (15* off 6). Earlier, Devon Conway (47 off 25), Ajinkya Rahane (27 off 15), and Ambati Rayudu (19 off 8) played brisk cameos to keep their side in the hunt. Dhoni departed for a golden duck, but Jadeja ensured he got the job done, as he smashed a six and a four to seal the deal for his franchise.
The anticipation was high as the final was pushed to the reserve day due to persistent rain in Gujarat. Yet, once the action commenced, it was a six-fest under the floodlights. Gujarat Titans set a formidable target of 214/4 in 20 overs, fueled by a spectacular innings of 96 runs off just 47 balls from Sai Sudarshan, leading the charge for the Hardik Pandya-led squad.
However, just as the second innings was about to kick off, the rain intervened once more, bringing the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method into play. Chennai Super Kings were tasked with chasing down a revised target of 171 runs in 15 overs.
In a nail-biting pursuit, the MS Dhoni-led outfit kept their composure, with an electrifying late surge from Ravindra Jadeja, who smashed an unbeaten 15 runs off just 6 deliveries. Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, and Ambati Rayudu also contributed brisk cameos to keep CSK's hopes alive.
Despite an early departure of Dhoni for a golden duck, Jadeja's heroics ensured victory for his team, as he struck a crucial six and a boundary off the final two deliveries to seal the deal and spark celebrations among the CSK faithful.
With this triumph, Chennai Super Kings added another glorious chapter to their IPL legacy, reaffirming their status as one of the most dominant forces in the tournament's history.
